Dave thanks for this video. I am making the transition from the old Topaz programs to Photo AI. Is there a tutorial video for the Denoise and Sharpen operations within Photo AI?

I am not that interested in flower photography, but found that the techniques that you used to improve this image can be applied to any image with similar corrections/editing. As always, I learned how to better utilize the TK9 panel in editing my work. I enjoy the channel and look forward to the TK Friday challenge presented each week.

I’m running it on my 2019 iMac with Monterey. I’ve been concerned about updating my system software for fear of losing studio 2. It works great with Monterey, but it seems inevitable that the Adobe suite will force system update at some point. That’s why I’m looking for an alternative. software for Topaz studio

Hello Dave, I understand that Topaz is not going to update Studio 2 and that it might not work on the Mac after the Monterey system software. Can you recommend any other software that has similar features? Thanks very much for your great tutorials!

Excellent explanation of using the Magic Mixer with masks. It's almost like the masks are working in reverse. Thanks for another good one.

Dave, you said that the first colour grade made the background too saturated. I wonder whether you could have tried: 1. using a luminosity blend mode; 2. a depth map which might have protected the background? I don't know, it's just a thought, not a criticism. Your videos are always very useful.

Another great edit Dave. Thank you. One thing...have you considered turning off the brush animation (the green and red circles) that appear when you use the brush tool (example at 21'13") as it would allow us to see the adjustment more clearer as you're doing it?

Thanks for the tutorial. OK, you've convinced me. The new U Point functionality is very powerful, so I guess I'll do yet another upgrade. I think I started with Nik 3, plus I have all of the other DxO stuff (PhotoLab blows way LR for RAW conversion, IMO). It keeps adding up, but that's the CODB if you want the best editing software (still better than renting Adobe). Too bad there's no filter to get rid of those power lines (but there are other alternatives for that).

Multiple subtle edits make such a big difference, so glad you drive that point home. I love TK Friday’s, I just hate when they end! But there is an entire library of them that keeps me busy.

I always learn something from you. One thing I enjoy about your editing, you have a 'soft' touch, not overdoing your edits. It takes me a while to actually see the changes, which I like, subtle, not 'in your face'. Great editng

Another excellent image adjustment - Bravo! To improve the composition, I would have tried 2 different things: 1) reduce the space between the flowers to make them feel more united as a pair and balance space outside the flowers. 2) more difficult; reverse position of the two flowers so they "face" each other instead of both "looking" away from the center which makes them feel like to people looking away from each other. Probably a personal touch more than a needed change.

How about some wildlife shots on TK Friday. Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh my...

Good stuff Dave, but I don't understand why the masks on the later Magic Mixer layers are white in the areas from below and the effect remains unchanged. EX: why doesn't the boat layer affect the sand layer below it since the mask on the sand is white? Is this something special with the magic mixer tool?

I want to make sure I understand the intended operation of using multiple magic channel mixer layers. For example, I can create a selection, say a square in the middle of a photo, then add a magic channel mixer layer,, I will have created a small black and white area of the photo that I can adjust. If I then create a second magic channel mixer layer with no selection, I notice that the changes I make in this section channel mixer layer don't affect the square area that I created in the first channel mixer layer. So even though I would have expected the entire image to be affected by the second channel mixer layer, it's as if I've masked out the area of the first channel mixer layer mask. If the second channel mixer layer is the normal Photoshop channel mixer, the result is different. In this case, the entire image is affected by the Photoshop channel mixer. Dave Kelly alluded to this in his video, but didn't explicitly mention the difference compared to the normal Photoshop channel mixer. I purchased the Magic channel mixer but quickly scanning the instruction manual, I didn't see this difference mentioned. Maybe I missed it. I just want to make sure I understand the operation of both channel mixers. Anyway, great video and great piece of software as a really low price.

Thank you so much!! I've been trying to work out if I should buy Giga or Photo with the extra features and couldn't really find any info of comparisons on Topaz site. If the results are similar then I think I will get the Photo option as the extra features will probably come in handy at a later date. I've been trying to use hires fix and ultimate upscale but find they introduce too much new noise and significantly change the images if i turn down the denoise I find they just make it bigger without really upscaling, I'm fed up with Minecraft images 🤭

Is it still over sharpen image even the sharpen bar is set 0?

This sells it on Photo AI for me, which I'd be using for upscaling and enhancing old - and I mean OLD (early 1800s) - family photos.

Dave, I really enjoy all of your TK Friday videos. I have one suggestion/request. In this video you did a great job explaining, for example, why you did the burning and dodging - i.e. what you were trying to achieve. However, at the beginning of each of your TK Friday videos, when you do the contrast and color grading adjustments, you don't explain your thought process in arriving at the adjustment level. Instead, you simply move the slider to the adjustment level you previously determined before recording the video. But we don't learn how to make those decisions for ourselves because you skip over that thought process. What went into your decision to select that level of adjustment? I know it is probably "I just know it when I see it" type of test, but I feel I would benefit from a short discussion of your thinking - i.e. why not more or less? - why do you skip color grading sometimes but not others? Is there an overall plan for this photo? Why is it that sometimes when I try to brighten highlights by moving the slider to the right, the image seems to darken? Thanks, and I hope to learn more about your thought process in future videos. I'll certainly be watching them.
